![]() ![]() ![]() These techniques are used widely in semiconductor technology. Studies can be classified as ion implantation, solid-phase doping, monolayer doping, and other methods such as sputtering and chemical solution mixing. īoron doping has grabbed attention for several decades. Boron is one of the essential dopants for shallow doping in silicon because of its good diffusivity. At low energy, the penetrated navigation of ions was mainly directed along crystalline channels rather than moving randomly into semiconductors. It required low-energy ions for implantation by considering thermal redistribution. Shallow doping could create doped layers with depths ranging about dozens of nanometers. The precise control of dimension and dopant concentration of source/drain region to achieve a high shallow doping efficiency is crucial for junction fabrication. The formation of shallow and low resistivity junctions is required for contact resistance reduction and leakage current consideration. The unstoppable development of electronic technology demands the detailed design and effective performance of microelectronics. Schematic of (a) boron-doped silicon, (b) an ion implanter, and (c) ion penetration path into a silicon substrate. This appears like the moving of the positive carrier. Thus, in a boron-doped semiconductor, the holes constantly move around inside the crystal as electrons continuously try to fill them. But when an electron moves into a hole, the electron leaves a new hole in the previous position. In the p-type semiconductors, the holes, like the positive charge, attract electrons. This hole acts like a positive charge, so boron-doped (B-doped) semiconductors are referred to as p-type semiconductors ( Figure 1a). Still, since boron only has three free electrons to provide, a hole is created. During the boron incorporation process into the silicon crystal, the one atom of boron can bond with four silicon atoms. Boron is a p-type dopant with only three electrons in its valence shell. Moreover, group V elements, including phosphorus (P), arsenic (As), antimony (Sb), bismuth (Bi), and lithium (Li), are donors to contribute free electrons in n-type semiconductors. The dopants belonging to group III, such as boron (B), aluminum (Al), gallium (Ga), and indium (In), are referred to as acceptors for p-type semiconductors. In the doping process, a dopant is added, which could play a role as either a donor to contribute an electron or an acceptor to create a hole with the semiconductor crystal that respectively generates two types of semiconductors: n-type and p-type. The intrinsic semiconductors are pure semiconductors without impurities (typical semiconductors of group IV in the periodic table: Si and Ge), in which the number of excited electrons equals the number of holes. In semiconductor technology, doping is a process that introduces delicately controlled amounts of impurities (called dopants) into an intrinsic semiconductor to modify its electrical, optical, and structural properties significantly. ![]()

The Government prize of £20,000 was the highest of three sums on offer for varying degrees of accuracy, the full prize only payable for a method that could find the longitude at sea within half a degree. After 1714 when the British government offered the huge sum of £20,000 for a solution to the problem, with the prize to be administered by die splendidly titled Board of Longitude. All he has to do is keep it wound up and running, and he must never reset the hands throughout the voyage This clock then provides ‘home time’, so if, for example, it is midday on board your ship and your ‘home time’ clock says that at that same moment it is midnight at home, you know immediately there is a twelve hour time-difference and you must be exactly round the other side of the world, 180 degrees of longitude from home.Į. The obvious and again simple answer is that he takes an accurate clock with him, which he sets to home time before leaving. The great flaw in this ‘simple’ theory was – how does the sailor know time back home when he is in the middle of an ocean?ĭ. Then the difference between the obtained time and local time served for calculation in longitude from Greenwich. Time corresponding to Greenwich Time was determined using the nautical almanac. The sailors also had to calculate the Moon’s position if seen form the centre of Earth. The angular position of Moon and other bright stars was recorded in three-hour intervals of Greenwich Time. In order to determine longitude, sailors had to measure the angle between Moon centre and a given star – lunar distance – together with height of both planets using the naval sextant. Up until the middle of the 18th century, navigators had been unable to determine their position at sea with accuracy and they faced the huge attendant risks of shipwreck or running out of supplies before reaching then destination. A comparison with your local time (easily found by checking the position of the Sim) will then tell you the time difference between you and home, and thus how far round the Earth you are from home.Ĭ. ![]() The key to knowing how far around the world you are from home is to know, at that very moment, what time it is back home. Even when in the middle of the ocean, with no land in sight, knowing this longitude position is very simple in theory. The crew of a given ship was naturally only concerned with how far round they were from their own particular home base. The longitude is a measure of how far around the world one has come from home and has no naturally occurring base line like the equator. Knowing one’s position on the earth requires two very simple but essential coordinates rather like using a street map where one thinks in terms of how far one is up/down and how far side to side.ī. Indeed, most of the scientific community thought such clock impossibility. The reality was that in the 18th century no one had ever made a clock that could suffer the great rolling and pitching of a ship and the large changes in temperature whilst still keeping time accurately enough to be of any use. In the US a different tooth numbering system is used: each of the 32 teeth are given a number between 1 and 32. There Are Different Numbering Systems Internationally So the upper right first molar in a four year old child will be called a 55 (“five-five”), and the first tooth a baby gets (a front tooth at the bottom right or left) will either be the 71 “seven-one” or 81 “eight-one”. This generates a permanent record of the check up and forms the basis for treatment planning. The assistant will have a system of recording these findings, either by hand or using computer software. They’ve also noticed that there is a lot of wear on the chewing edges of the eight upper front teeth, which might be due to night-time clenching or grinding. In this case, the dentist has noticed a shadow on one side of the upper right second premolar and will need an x-ray to confirm if this is decay. Your dentist will use similar-sounding number/letter/word combinations to identify the location of cavities, cracks or tooth wear. We’ll explain in another article what these letters mean. This tells the assistant that this patient has four fillings in the top right quadrant: a white (composite) filling on the chewing surface of the second molar, an amalgam filling covering two surfaces of the first molar and second premolar, and a white filling on the canine tooth. “Current restorations: 17 has an occlusal composite, 16 MO (“em-oh”) amalgam, 15 DO (“dee-oh”) amalgam, 13 distal composite” This time they will use a combination of numbers, letters and words. Next, they might identify the presence of fillings, crowns and implants. Also missing is three-four.” What this means is that all of the wisdom teeth are missing, as well as the lower left first premolar. Using these two sets of numbers, your dentist can identify each tooth in your mouth: so your upper right central incisor will be referred to as tooth 11 (and your dentist will say ‘one-one’, not ‘eleven’) and your lower left wisdom tooth is a 38 (‘three-eight’).ĭentists at Corinna Dental take detailed records of every patient, and these tooth numbers are the shorthand way to record the presence or absence of particular teeth.ĭentists will often start their examination of the teeth by taking a general look around the mouth and letting their assistant know which teeth are absent (and therefore which teeth to cross off the dental chart.) So they might say something like “One-eight, two-eight, three-eight and four-eight not present, possibly extracted, we’ll need to check that on the x-rays. Diabetic retinopathy is the most common diabetes-related eye disease in U.S. Let's discuss four types of systemic diseases and how they can affect your eyes, what treatments are available, and how to potentially prevent severe vision damage.ĭiabetes is a disease in which blood glucose (blood sugar) levels are too high, which can cause significant changes in the large and small blood vessels of the body. Unfortunately, many patients have more than one disease that can affect their retina. However, if you -have a health condition that may affect the eyes, your doctor might suggest having your eyes examined more frequently. In general, adults with no known vision problems should have an eye screening every one to two years. That's part of the reason why regular eye screenings are so important. The MBRs of veins were homogeneous throughout the width of the lumen however, the MBRs in the arteries were higher at the center and lower close to the walls of the lumen. The higher TRFIs in the veins than in the arteries indicate that there is a smaller volume of retinal blood flow in arteries than veins. ![]() The ratios of the lumen diameters determined by LSFG to that by AO camera was significant lower in arteries (0.068 ± 0.005, arbitral units) than in veins (0.074 ± 0.007, arbitral units) (P < 0.001).
